CATHLEEN NAUNDORF'S FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY

Tuesday 29 January 2013

Alongside other members of CreateVoice, I was lucky enough to be able to go on a tour of the Valentino: Master of Couture exhibition at Somerset House, led by one of the curators himself. I have a little post lined up about the exhibition itself, but wanted to share these photographs first. Photographer Cathleen Naundorf produced the postcards for the Valentino exhibition, which are so beautiful that I couldn't help buying one (even at £2.50 per postcard!). I was considering buying all of them but the thought of spending £10 on only four postcards was too much for even a postcard fiend like me. So, I contented myself with one and looked up more of her work online when I got back, with amazing results as I'd predicted. I love her work for the fashion houses (here: Valentino, Elie Saab, Dior) as it is so different from most fashion photography - atmospheric, painterly and far more artistic than a lot of the airbrushed images I've been seeing (far too much of) in magazines. As a girl currently very disillusioned with the fashion industry, her work is a nice bit of refreshment for me.
