The Folio Society create beautiful, traditionally made and specially illustrated versions of many different types of books - classics, fiction and non-fiction. I posted about Sam Weber's illustration for the Folio Society's edition of 'Lord of the Flies' a while back, and this is my fated copy of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude. It's illustrated by Neil Packer and is the antithesis to my Kindle. I'm torn, because it'd reduce paper waste for everything to be electronic, but there is nothing like a real book in your hands to read instead of a machine. Turning pages, marking in pencil - or keeping in perfect condition - are all things that I enjoy so much about real books, and like with the decline in CD's and vinyl, if we turn electronic then we lose the magic of the cover art, illustration and sometimes innovative display that tangible items can give us. You can't smell an e-book or hold an mp3 file in your fingers.
