Alberto Mielgo paints Belladonna

Screenshots from a short film 'Innocent, in a way', that I found on Purple Television. You can watch it on Alexis' Vimeo here.

It was directed by Alexis Wanneroy (he has some awesome shorts on his Vimeo site) and features the Spanish painter Alberto Mielgo and one of the women he paints, porn actress Belladonna. It's a lovely portrayal of their working relationship, and shows more of her natural personality existing behind her porn persona - her softer, quieter side - she explains this herself in the film. Mielgo also makes an interesting point about how his work is sometimes viewed as 'shocking', yet religious artwork depicting Christ's crucifixion, or beheaded saints, is not viewed as being as shocking as real and sympathetic renderings of the natural human body. The paintings are the furthest thing from pornography, so why do people consider them so shocking? Personally I think his paintings are beautiful, and don't find them distressing or shocking in the slightest; I find it interesting that he takes a woman typically shown in a very sexualised manner and positions her in relaxed, comfortable and not necessarily typically flattering or sexual poses - though of course she still looks beautiful.

What does anyone else think?

  1. I think the human body is beautiful. Some people want to do ugly things to it sometimes. But some people make it look even more beautiful. Mielgo is one of those.

    1. It's strange, sometimes I find the human body beautiful, sometimes I find it really repulsive! I'm pro sex work as long as it's a choice, but I loved the gentler protrayal of the female body here. I want one of his paintings!
