Day Trip to Arundel

Thursday 15 October 2015

Danny's mum recently moved out of London, down to a town called Arundel in the South Downs. It's actually not too far from my hometown, and the drive down to visit was spent working out whether or not my feeling I'd been to the places we went through was accurate. The area is full of tiny villages with quaint houses, little original post offices and wonky shopfronts. Arundel town is incredibly old - it's referred to in the Domesday Book of 1086, when it was a flourishing market town - and has a huge number of beautiful old listed buildings, including the giant castle. We didn't have a lot of time in the town (just enough to go for a walk along the river to the pub and back) but I'm really looking forward to paying more visits in the future. We'll definitely be going back to Pallant, the delicatessen (there was no resisting the cheese or the crusty bread), and I'm hoping to get inside the castle and the cathedral.
