AN ENGRAVED ZIPPO FROM THE VIETNAM WAR

Sunday 9 December 2012

One of my favourite things to do is to collect random and interesting objects; Barton Lidice Benes and studying eighteenth and nineteenth century curio cabinets have made me even more intent on amassing my own collection of objects. A while ago my brother came home with this Vietnam-era lighter, inscribed traditionally with a message personal to that soldier. It is his friend's father's lighter, and since he had a couple he gave one to my brother, who passed it on to me after discovering it needs fixing before it can work. I'm not concerned with whether it works or not, so it's found a happy home with me. The Vietnam war is one of the darkest periods of world history, and it's interesting to have a little piece of it.

  2. Oh, that's beautiful! I love collecting random things like this too, especially things that seem as though they could tell so many stories...
