Alexander McQueen fashion shorts

Saturday, 9 April 2011

A little detour into the fashion world, which I don't pretend to know much about, but like to delve into occasionally. Of course it will all become relevant to 'arty' stuff too. I've had mixed opinions on Alexander McQueen in the past; I think this is mainly due to the price tag, and the complete unwearability of his shoes, but I've also been swayed in the other direction by some incredible pieces and intricate detailing... I particularly liked the projects and collaborations with Puma in 09/10. First up, some stills from 'Ghost Film'  (click on the link for the full short) from AW09, which has some layering and slo-mo effects I'd definitely like to learn!

Next, stills from another film from the McQueen and Puma project, this time from 2010 - 'The Book of Five Rings' (the title was taken from the book of the same name by the samurai Miyamoto Musashi; the film also features a quote from him - 'from one thing, know ten thousand things'). The fantastic graphics and animation were created and directed by The Supernature and the appropriately abstract, rolling sounds were created by Jafbox Sound - I've added them to my 'to listen to' list. Also listed in the credits were The Show Studio, an interesting online fashion film site. I admired the animation particularly (having struggled to get to grips with Adobe Illustrator, I can't image the pain of having to make something that I had thought of and drawn into something moving and three-dimensional. Nightmare.)

Did I also mention that his runway shows are awesome? Films of the shows are on his website.
